Why can a website be blocked by the campus firewall?
In order to ensure safe, legal, and efficient use of technology services, the campus firewall may block access to certain entire websites or websites. Some of the most common reasons are:
-
Protection of copyright and legality: It is not allowed to use the campus network to download content that violates intellectual property, such as unlicensed software, films, music or other materials with exploitation rights.
-
Responsible use of technological resources: The services are designed for academic and professional activities. They may not be used to exploit vulnerabilities, access unauthorized information, or use them in a way that compromises network security.
-
Access to inappropriate or suspicious content: Access to sites with content considered inappropriate or illegal, as well as domains that are suspicious or very old (less than 31 days), is blocked until they are analyzed and validated by the security system.
-
Preventive security measures: FUNITEC reserves the right to restrict, in whole or in part, access to any technological service or web content, temporarily or permanently, and without prior notice, if deemed necessary to protect the integrity of the system, its workers and its users.
-
Newly created content: Domains or FQDNs that are less than 31 days old may not be available until they are analyzed or until 31 days have elapsed to be automatically analyzed. If a site is incorrectly categorized, you can request a change to the external service from the website: https://urlfiltering.paloaltonetworks.com/
These measures aim to maintain a safe digital environment for everyone. This cut of information is not valid as a regulation, but seeks to summarize and simplify part of the regulation for FAQ queries.
The complete regulations can be found in the "regulations" section of the top menu, in the annual copy of the technological services sent by email at the beginning of the course, in the service documentation in the eStudy or by contacting helpdesk@salleurl.edu.
If you have any doubts, you can consult with ICT Services or HelpDesk (helpdesk@salleurl.edu).
